The Formation of AES Singapore Section In April 1993, two Student Members of the AES British Section took a suggestion from their research supervisor, Professor Malcolm O. Hawksford, a Fellow Member of the AES and a Director of the Centre for Audio Research & Engineering, to form a Singapore Section. In 1994, with 20 members residing in Singapore, the first meeting was called. The 1st AGM was held in a Staff Conference Room in Block 83 at the Department of Electrical Engineering at Ngee Ann Polytechnic on August 8 1994, where Stephen Low, one of the two students of the AES British Section now back in Singapore, was a staff member. The main purpose of the first meeting was to form the pro-term committee before submitting the application forms for approval from the AES Head Office in New York, USA, and the ROS. As well as other documents, they also prepared the Section Constitution. The AES Board of Governors approved the request to form a new section at a meeting held during the 98th AES Convention in Paris, France, in February 1995. The new section received the final approval letter from the ROS dated 11th December 1995. Under the guidelines of the Section Constitution approved by the AES Head Office and the ROS, the section was formed with 8 elected members as the Section Officers of the new committee. At the age of 38, Stephen Low became the first Chairman of the Singapore Section. |
